Handy definitions to help you navigate the world of home care
Home Care: Often used to describe in-home assistance of any type. More specifically, home care is help with activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, light cooking and cleaning.
Home Health: Refers to the need for a nurse, physical therapist, or other medically licensed professional periodically. It may be used in combination with Home Care.
Hospice: End-of-life care for an individual with a life expectancy of 6 months or less.
Assisted Living: A residence that provides professional support for activities of daily living.
Nursing Home: A residence that provides around-the-clock care for patients with a high need for medical attention.
Activities of Daily Living: Includes bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating, walking, getting to and from the grocery store, handling finances.
