ABOUT US

Karissa Price and Mariaelena Gonzalez founded Trusted Hands NetworkSM in 2010.  Both of them experienced a time-consuming struggle to find trustworthy and reliable home care service for Karissa’s mother, who has Parkinson’s disease, and Mariaelena’s uncle, who needed hospice after battling cancer. Karissa’s mother was reluctant to leave her home for an assisted living or nursing home, but Karissa increasingly worried about her mother being home alone after a shocking in-home accident brought the reality of her situation to light.

What happened?

During the summer of 2008, Karissa’s mom had a terrible accident in her home in New Mexico, fracturing her leg, which required her to be airlifted to Colorado for treatment. Karissa quickly came to the realization that her mom could no longer live alone. Fervently independent, Ms. Price wouldn’t hear of leaving her beloved home. At home, she had her cats and dog, her vegetable garden and plenty of space for her quilting projects.  Karissa couldn’t possibly move her family and career to New Mexico nor could she provide the care her mother needed even if they lived in the same city. Karissa determined the only option for the entire family was to find someone to provide home care for her mom.

While balancing the demands of a full time career, being a wife and mother herself, Karissa began the arduous task of researching the best home care options. Months of calling state agencies, interviewing providers over the phone, vetting their references, checking credentials, an unpleasant experience trying to hire a home care provider with a craigslist.com post, and more…Karissa was frustrated.

Mariaelena faced a different situation.  Her uncle was ill from cancer and when the Doctor recommended that hospice care start the next day, she was asked by her aunt to help with the situation.  She was given a long list of providers and started the process of researching agencies to start service the next day.  But how much could really be done in one day? So she ended up selecting one agency and had many service issues with the agency to the point of having to look for a replacement.

AHA! Moment

Karissa was resolute: there had to be a better and more efficient way. Her first idea was to create a first class home care agency that would provide excellent service- the type of service you would receive if it were a Four Seasons-type of agency.  But upon further research, she discovered that there were already over 30,000 agencies nationwide.  So the problem was not lack of good agencies, but how to distinguish the best ones amongst the crowd.

With her experience in developing strategic solutions for corporations around the globe, she created the Trusted Hands Network, a referral service that matches people in need of home care with the best quality care providers available to meet the specific needs of their family.

Karissa’s mission in life is to revolutionize the way people select home care providers, and ensure that loved ones nationwide can enjoy the comforts of their own home for as long as possible. Since the launch of Trusted Hands in early 2010, the response from families searching for home care and high quality home health agencies looking to stand out from the crowd has been tremendous and the network continues to grow from its core base of California to 42 states.
